Customer Review: 4 star Digital or 3 star Analog
I got this tv to use just for that, a tv. Because I have Cable, I was able to try it out with an Analog signal to start with and the picture quality was not very good. I was told it could be because of the tv tunner and this could be true because when I connected a Digital signal, the picture quality was Excellent. HD is good, sound is good, ajustments are easy and good, enough imputs for me and the TV itself is sturdy. However, the Remote could be bigger and the manual is cheap and leaves much to be desired. It should be a good TV after June 2009 when the country goes all Digital. With Analog I don't recommend it.
Customer Review: That's Sharp
Affordable with a nice picture from a company I have counted on in the past.

Yamaha RX-V750 - AV receiver - 7.1 channel

Yamaha's RX-V750 audio/video receiver delivers high-quality, future-ready performance with ultimate surround processing--all at a remarkably affordable price. The RX-V750 offers the convenience of DVD-Audio/SACD-ready analog inputs alongside the latest 7.1-channel surround formats, 192 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog conversion for all channels, and premium Yamaha sound technologies. Finished in traditional black, the receiver will disappear in your darkened living room during movies.

When hooked up with the digital-audio output from a DVD-Video player or digital satellite receiver, the 100 watts-per-channel receiver (20 to 20,000 Hz into 8 ohms with 0.06 percent THD) handles standard 5.1-channel surround decoding for both major formats, Dolby Digital and DTS. In addition, the receiver processes Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, DTS 96/24, DTS Neo:6, DTS-ES Matrix 6.1, and DTS-EX Discrete 6.1. The extended-surround formats (including Yamaha's own) create even more expansive soundfields through the use of an additional rear pair of surround speakers, resulting in 7 discrete, full-range signals in addition to the LFE (low-frequency effects) channel: front left/right, mid-surround left/right, rear-surround left/right, and a front-center channels.

A key benefit from a Yamaha receiver, of course, is Yamaha's proprietary signal processing, including Cinema DSP (digital soundfield processing), which creates aural "imaging" that not only makes your home sound like a theater, but also sounds better than most movie theaters. Based on a wealth of measured data in real studios and halls, Cinema DSP is designed to bring out the full potential of movie sound mixes, reproducing them the way directors and sound engineers intended.

Non-Dolby Digital and DTS sources can benefit from surround processing, too. With enhanced directional steering over standard four-channel Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Pro Logic IIx provides 5.1 channels of surround processing from any stereo source--whether that's a TV broadcast, VHS tapes, or your favorite CDs, cassettes, and LPs.

And, when you're listening to multichannel presentations late at night, you'll appreciate Silent Cinema, which simulates 5.1-channel listening through a pair of ordinary 2-channel headphones (not included). Silent Cinema uses unique parameters for each soundfield to ensure accurate headphone representations of each soundfield.

DVD-Audio and SACD can each deliver up to 6 channels of discrete, full-frequency sound at greater-than-CD resolution (in the case of DVD-A, that means 24 bits, 192 kHz sampling rate versus 16 bits, 44.1 kHz for CD). In stereo or surround, the sound from DVD-Audio and SACD is packed with detail, yet smoother and sweeter from than the sound from even the best standard CD players.

This receiver also comes fully equipped with Yamaha's YPAO system, which uses a small microphone (supplied) to analyze the acoustics of your room and, based on the results, make intelligent adjustments of various speaker parameters to provide the optimum sound at your primary listening position.

The receiver offers 7 stereo audio/video input connections (all with composite-/S-video, 2 with component-video), 1 stereo phono input (with ground), 1 set of multichannel (7.1) analog inputs for your DVD-Audio or SACD player, 6 fixed and assignable digital-audio inputs (great for DSS, CD, laserdisc, gaming consoles, or minidisc), and front-panel input connections for your camcorder or other spontaneous hookup. The receiver's video circuitry is high-definition ready, too (60 MHz bandwidth for the component-video circuits), and it will upconvert composite- to S-video and S-video to component-video (720p/1080i) to simplify TV hookups.

For outputs, you get 3 standard AV outputs (stereo RCA audio with composite- and S-video) and a set of 7.1-channel preamplifier outputs, in addition to a stereo RCA (left/right) Zone 2 line-level output. Speaker outputs for all 7 main channels are sturdy binding-post type (including the left/right B Speakers set), while the Zone 2 speakers (which do double duty as "presence" speaker outputs for Yamaha DSP algorithms) feature clip-type terminals.

Last, but certainly not least, the RX-V750 benefits from Yamaha's Digital ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) build philosophy. The culmination of the best digital engineering and design possible, it brings together several key elements to create the best-sounding, easiest-to-use A/V components available.

What's in the Box
Receiver, remote control, 4 AAA batteries, an AM loop antenna, an indoor FM antenna, an optimizer microphone, a warranty card, and a user's manual.
Customer Review: Fantastic Receiver
The Yamaha receiver does all it is suppose to. I recommend a HDMI connection or port be added for a future improvement if possible. I am more than satisfied with this producted purchased about 1 year ago.

Customer Review: "A horse is a horse of course of course.... "
"A horse is a horse, of course, of course" is a line from the old "Mr. Ed" TV show. It came to mind because that describes this camera. It works like a horse, is rugged (it's been dropped with no ill effects), looks decent (a tinnie bit large, but not unreasonably so), does good quality work, and is easy to use. The video quality is great in Hi-Res and more than adequate for web quality. You get about an hour of recording in Hi-Res and between 3 and 4 hours in web-quality. Plus you can take individual shots. I did a whole wedding in available lighting this weekend at web-quality and the pictures are terrific. The video editing software downloads from the camera the first time you hook up to a USB port to download your movies/pictures on each computer. The RCA Memory Manager (I think that's it's name) that gets installed is a low-end product but seems to work ok once you get the hang of it. Basically it let's you "slice and dice" your videos and recombine them or cut out parts you don't want in the final version. More than adequate for what I want to do with it. I think it's a bit large compared to something like a Flip but not really very big. The size makes it easy to handle and the viewing screen is actually big enough to see what you are looking at. It will easily fit in all but the smallest pockets or purses and the lens cap keeps the finger prints out of the videos and still shots. I do find myself cleaning the viewing screen though. The only thing that I don't like about the product is when it semi-automatically compresses the file for emailing I think the resolution "sucks" and you loose a tremendous amount of quality. But, since it is trying to make it small enough to email it isn't supprising... those bits of information that it compresses out gotta come from somewhere. Since I'll use other means to email it really isn't a problem for me. Overall, how do I like it? At around $80 I absolutely love it. Would I buy it again? Absolutely! It's a great quality product for the price and definitely in contention with the Flip, in my opinion. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot... we've been using it off-and-on for a couple of weeks now and still have not changed the batteries (two double-A's if I remember right but I didn't pay attention when we unpacked it.).
Customer Review: A good little camera
Never tried a Flip, so I do not know how they compare, but this little camera is easy to use, seems sturdy but is still light weight, and has had no problems in the initial three or so weeks of use that this one has had. I would not hesitate to recommend it to someone looking for a convenient, pocket-sized camcorder.

Porter-cable us58 1/4-inch to 5/8-inch 22-gauge c-crown upholstery sta

Best Price Porter Cable US58 For Sale. Buy Now!.

Customer Buzz

Love this stapler; it's easy to use, very smooth and powerful, and I have had no issues using this on a variety of surfaces.

Customer Buzz

We thought this worked well, just wished that the staple we had bought to go with it were a little stronger to make picture frames, but they both worked great.

Customer Buzz

I purchased this item 12 months ago, but did not write a review at the time. I decided I did not want to review it right away, but to see how it actually performed over time. I'm sorry to say that I am now in the market to purchase a different tool due to the ever increasing misfires with this gun. At first, it worked like a dream and I thought I had really scored over the others in my upholstery workshop who purchased much more expensive units. In spite of diligent cleaning and oiling, however, the misfire rate has increased to an unmanageable degree. It is not unusual for me to have twenty misfires to every delivered staple. Sure makes the work slowgoing. Perhaps I am missing something, but with sparse manufacturer instructions, I expect I will remain in the dark.

-Disappointed in Illinois.

Customer Buzz

I always look long and hard before I buy anything. There are number of upholstery staplers available at a wide range of prices. I chose this one partly because of the Porter/Cable name, but it was just what I wanted and at what I thought was a reasonable price. It didn't come with a case, but other than that, I am very pleased with it. It made my upholstery job so easy, I could hardly believe it.

Customer Buzz

Needed an upholstery stapler that would use 1/4 inch staples for a small project of re-upholstering a set of 6 chairs. This product was light weight, powerful enough to drive staples into solid oak, and the tip was small enough to fit into tight places. Once we figured out that the staples fit underneath, facing down, then it worked great. One time where it was helpful to look at the instructions. :)

Customer Buzz

I used the US58 to hang fabric in my HT room and had no problems with it. I had a hard time finding staples at my local HD, but Menards had them and cheaper than amazon. I have run about 10,000 staples through the gun with no problems. It did not come with a plastic case, not a big deal to me.

Customer Buzz

Nice handy tool to have around the house for certain projects. Have used it for carpeting stairs, doing a small hardwood floor job.

Customer Buzz

I couldn't do upholstery projects without this tool. It's light, small, and very simple to use. And the price is right.

Customer Buzz

Great tool at a reasonable price. I bought it because of the Porter Cable brand, and was not disappointed. Shoots various length staples, depending on your needs. Easy to set up, load and use. Compact nose allows use in narrow areas. Low air usage. No jams. Very satisfied.

Customer Buzz

I just got this not more then a couple weeks ago (today being 11/1/07), so I don't have much to write. I have had good luck so far with this one. I read in another persons review that the only complaint they had was that it didn't come with it's own case. That would be a problem for sake of keeping dust out of the nipple and all. I resolved this by keeping it in its box for the time being. Since I like making things, I'm making a set of drawers for this and my other nail guns. I'll write more later if I come up with any complaints.

tool does everything that they said it would. One fault for the tool I have is that the offset spindle gets so hot during use that it cannot be touched.

Customer Buzz
This little thing was amazing. I took it out and thought what is this little tool suppossed to do, yet I was really surprised to turn it on and feel the torque on this baby. Shes a lil monster and with the offset guide it makes precision cutting very easy. I have had others and I have found none compare to this. Over a decade and still going strong.
I also love my porter cable jigsaw and belt sander although the jigsaw has a very cheap way of changing out the blades that needs to be redesigned.

Customer Buzz
I have one of these trimmers and would like to know how to set the depth adjustment for this particular model. For some reason there is no manual in my purchase
Thanks Weldon

Customer Buzz
I have owned this kit since 1992 or so. It does NOT take the place of a regular router but it is good for doing things in tight places like inside of a cabinet or in the case of my last use; between a cabinet and a ceiling. I used the off-set base to get real close to an edge and it worked perfect. The cabinet was pushing up against the ceiling and I had no way to take it back off the base to cut it down. It was deflecting the ceiling and not allowing the back off the cabinet and base to line up against the wall. I dusted off my trusty PC laminate kit with the offset base a 1/4" bit and it worked like a charm. It allowed me to level out the cabinet nicely and afterwards trim it out with some crown.
Would I use this for countertop production or installation? No. Would I bring it along in case I needed to get into a tight space that my PC 691 wouldnt fit? You bet you biffy.
I havent used the slitter in almost five years but it works great for making edge banding at the jobsite. Sure beats bringing your table saw.

You can have my PC lam kit when you pry it from my cold dead fingers.

Customer Buzz
I have a PC heavy duty router and it is great, so i ordered their laminate trimmer. The chuck does not hold the bits very securly, and must be retightened every minute or so no matter how hard you torque on it. The bases are very difficult to change, requiring a tool and a couple of minutes. I would recomend looking at the other options available.

Porter-cable 9826 19.2-volt ni-cad 1/2-inch cordless drill/driver kit

Best Price Porter Cable 9826. Free Shipping. Buy Now!.

Customer Buzz
I bought this drill just under 2 years ago to supplement my much older, very reliable 12V Ryobi for when I need more UMPH.

I never did like this PC drill that much because it is very heavy and the batteries they supply have very low storage capacity. The charge would barely last 45 minutes of regular use.

This comes with a fancy computerized battery charger that can detect and charge several differnt voltage batteries. Well mine died a few months ago. I probably did not charge the batteries more than 25 to 30 times on that charger.

I called PC and the best they would do is sell me a charger at a discounted price of $65 including shipping. That works out to about $2 per charge.

I also have a friend who is an electrition and he tells me the PC cordless drills are the ones that are tossed after pretty short lives.

I recommned stongly against it - my only other experience with cordless drills is with my Ryobi. That is still going strong after nearly 10 years (with two new generic batteries that were actually better quality than the originals). I would recommend one of their higher end drills.

Customer Buzz
I have been working and playing with power tools almost all my life, I just turned 65. This Porter-Cable Cordless Drill/Driver has got to be the best one I've ever used. The weight and the way it fits in your hand is perfect. It's great the way Porter-Cable made a tool to respond to your commands so quickly and smoothly. The only drawback I could find is they didn't make a 15 minute charger like the guys who make that YELLOW drill.

Customer Buzz
The drill is ok. Not as tough as I had hoped since a drop to the floor from waist level broke a piece of plastic on it. Good buy for the money but wish it was built like a hitachi.

Customer Buzz
I had worn out a fabulous Porter-Cable 14.4v cordless drill. I had used and abused it, great batteries, great power. My family got me this 19.2v model as a replacement. It works well, lots of power, etc... but the battery life is very poor, a fraction of my previous tool. I wouldn't buy it again.

Customer Buzz
Just bought this drill a few weeks ago (dec. 2006) I wanted to find out the cost of a replacement battery (for futute reference) Porter cable doesn't "have any left" there are two in dallas and mabe a few in detroit. Yes, this battery has been discontinued but the drill hasn't. No, there isn't another battery you can use (three different sources). So, why buy a great drill that you'll have to throw away with your "drill master" in two years, because the battery is beat? Your choice. Why two stars and not one? Because it is a very nice drill. Oh yea, spoke with porter cable they don't know why they did this.. Mabe it was the move to Taiwan

Customer Buzz
This drill has excellent power. The battery life is outstanding. The weight is managable (only slightly heavier than my older 12v bosch). The clutch and electric brake have good feel. The drill is balanced well. Unlike my older drill the bit holders (2ea) work. The price on this unit is incredible (...). 19.2v is kind of unusual. However, Porter-Cable has a complete line of tools at this power, so I expect they should be around for a long time. My drill is still fairly new so the only unknown I have is how well the batteries will last. This is one of the most important considerations in buying cordless. This is the reason I chose not to buy the 18v Dewalt, or the 15.6v NiMH Panasonic. My old 12v Bosch Batteries lasted 6yrs, which given the amount of use I think that is pretty good. I went with the Porter-Cable for the price.

Porter-cable 4212 12-inch deluxe dovetail jig

Best Price Porter Cable 4212. Free Shipping. Buy Now!.

Customer Buzz
I've been wanting to do dovetails all my life. This jig made it easy and fun to do. I did have to watch the video on youtube first but after that it all came together. Jerry

Customer Buzz
Arguably one of the best products for making dovetails. You won't find this product cheaper anywhere than here on Amazon.

Customer Buzz
When I first got interested in wood work the whole idea of dovetail joints was very compelling. It is kind of what defines furniture and cabinet making, the focal point for many people. "Ooh, dovetail joints..." they exclaim when they open a drawer. I imagine zillions of dollars are spent every year on dovetail-making tools.

The Porter-Cable 4212 is a solid, mid-level dovetail jig. It makes excellent joints, but only the standard evenly-spaced variety. The more expensive brands with adjustable fingers will make random joints that look hand-made (sort of). They will also allow for different spacing for drawer fronts and rears, a common design.

The PC is solid and well-made, far more substantial and better designed than the budget models I have seen and used. The price is fair for what you get.

Some reviewers have complained about less than perfect components. All tools made for the garage workshop must be adjusted, checked, rechecked and sometimes tweaked. If you are going to do nice work on a semblance of a budget, you just have to "tune" all of your tools.

The manual really is not very good. The photos are murky and don't show the details they are supposed to. Simple line drawings would have been better. The text is all over the place and topics appear to be randomly placed on the pages. The Super Collider manual is probably easier to figure out.

I do not like the proprietary router bits. That is not doing the consumer any favors. Amazon does not even sell them. Check with Google to see how far away these thing are. I had to drive 20 miles to a specialty woodworking place to get one, and paid dearly for it.

This jig has no dust collection system. Expect a shop full of dust. You will be absolutely covered in dust and chips. You will have to wear real eye protection, the best mask possible and ear protection. This is all uncomfortable stuff. We all hate it, but you will be sorry, or worse, if you don't. You might as well go out and get the best and most comfortable protection possible or you will just be miserable.

Things that may help you work with this jig (and maybe others):

1. Making dovetails is an extremely precise endeavor, perhaps the most close-tolerance thing you will do in making furniture and such. You have to measure and re-measure, work slowly and recheck every setting at regular intervals. One change in the way the boards are clamped in or the adjustment of the router leads to disaster. The manual even says that a one degree deviation from square will ruin things.

2. Practice on scrap wood of the same exact thickness as your final project.

3. It does not hurt to mill up a couple of extra boards in case you screw up and have to re-do something.

4. Fluted dovetail bits, not the straight ones, act like wedges and tend to pull down and out of the router, or put a strain on the depth adjustment. You have to really crank down on the clamping nut. And it may still pull out.

5. You will have less of this pulling if the bit is sharp. Get it over with and buy spares. Figure at least one dovetail bit per 10 or more ply drawer sets. This is not an inexpensive hobby or job, so don't try to save $25 by using dull bits. New, sharp bits are a requirement for doing this properly!

6. To make sure your bit depth is constant for the entire project, score a line with the dovetail bit the whole width of the drawer side before you plunge it into the slots to actually cut out the slots. This acts like a reference line that allows you to see if the bit is getting out of adjustment so you can stop before any big damage is done. You have to actually see this, so you have to kneel down to eye level. This makes the eye protection mentioned above all the more important.

7. Putting a little silicon spray on a rag and wiping the top guide and the router base will make it easier to slide around. Don't get any silicon on the wood, hence the rag and not a direct spray. The plastic router base does not slide on the aluminum very well.

8. Try, try, try to not use plywood. Routing dovetails in plywood is not a fun or satisfying experience. It is a nasty splintery product that is simply not suitable for this at all. I bought some "drawer grade" ply that had a reasonably attractive finish. I found that even this "specialized" product was awful stuff, almost impossible to use. The veneer was actually thinner than paper, amazing that this is possible.

I guess I won't get an invite to the Plywood Cartel Association Gala Ball, but this is a product that is best used for structural sheathing and boarding up vacant buildings.

Try to use actual wood. It isn't all that hard to get boards down to a half-inch, it looks better and it is a far more satisfying experience. You don't have to hide the edges, either, so you save that time. The bits last far longer, too.

Lastly, think about not using a jig at all. The occasional small drawer project can be done by hand just as well. All you need is a chisel and a dovetail saw. And, as your mother will tell you, it is good for you.

I'll bet those old cabinet makers could chop out a drawer or three in less time than it takes to set up, test and then finally turn out machined joints. The couple of old dressers I have use clearly hand-made dovetail joints. They used hand-made dovetails on an assembly line when machine tools were readily available. It was probably faster. Today, they would use a computer-controlled mill to make them and they would be absolutely perfect.

Interestingly, the quality of the joints is less than what many people would expect. They clearly were done quickly. They are a fine way to hold things together for a few hundred years, but would never make it to the cover of a woodworker magazine. So, think about the need for absolute and total perfection on some of your projects.

So, I recommend a jig only if you are going to make an entire set of kitchen drawers, or more.

Even then, look into the excellent modern manufactured metal drawer systems by Blum and others. You just add simple wood, or other material, rectangles and get options like full-extension, soft-close sliders as well. This is a super high-end way to go and will that cost you more than buying jigs, routers, real wood, nice sliders, etc?

Also, there are custom, pre-made drawers available through catalogues. Their dovetails are obviously made with expensive machinery and are perfect. Again, this may be cheaper and better. You can add your own fronts and concentrate your efforts on what shows.

This review began with the allure of dovetail joints. I snuck into a high-end, appointment-only cabinet "studio" and played with all the drawers. Not a dovetail in sight. Is this the end of them, or is it an opportunity to make stuff that is more distinctive that what even rich people enjoy in their $200K designer kitchens?

I went the dovetail route for my kitchen re-do, even made ply look good (I have impressive hacking skills thanks to having terrible or no tools for most of my life). If someone opens a drawer they will see dovetails and the too-expensive sliders will ease it back with impressive precision. The 4212 is about the least expensive way to do this with about about as much ease as a garage-shop woodworker can expect.

Customer Buzz
Very easy set up, I made 6 drawers for a chest, and after a couple of practice dovetails and a small adjustment they came out very professional looking. Would highly recommend this dovetail fixture

Customer Buzz
I recently purchased this dovetail jig. The left offset guide used to make the half-blind dovetails is made by bending a piece of metal in a brake press. My offset guide was not bent square, which caused a lot of alignment problems with the pin board and tail board. Being this offset guide is so critical with alignment between the pin board and the tail board, I would not recommend this product. I hope I can find an after market offset guide to remedy this problem. I am trying to contact Porter Cable in hopes of a solution.

Customer Buzz
This jig is very solid. I have used dovetail jigs in the past and they haven't been nearly as strong or machined as well as this jig. The instructions are a bit confusing, but after reading through them a couple of times, I got it.

Customer Buzz
I have made several dovetails for drawers. This jig is much better than my old Sears model. It took a fair amount of time to figure out how to set it up right. The instructions are not as precise as one would hope. Make sure you cut extra trial pieces and practice before you get to the finish products. I had to tweek the stop on the left side to make the joints right on. I still need to try the other features with the jig, but I do think it is very much worth the money compared with the high end ones.

Customer Buzz
After purchasing this jig from Amazon, I used it to make dovetail joints on 8 drawers for a cd cabinet that I'm building in my basement woodshop. Based on this experience I feel that I can write a meaningful review.

The drawers have through dovetails in back and half-blinds in front. The first thing I discovered was that I needed to purchase a different base-plate for my Milwaukee Router so that I could use the template guide that came with the jig. The next thing I found out was that it is a whole lot easier to use two routers when making through dovetails. This is because when you make through dovetails you use both sides of the template...one side for tails and the other for pins. Each side has a different size template guide. One is used for the dovetail bit when cutting the "tails", and the other is used for the straight bit when cutting the "pins". If you have only one router, you would need to constantly switch guides and bits to cut pins and tails. Not impossible to do, but is a lot of extra work. With two routers you can set the bit depths and leave them alone. Fortunately, I have two I two Milwaukee Routers and only needed another baseplate.

The other suggestion I have is to practice making dovetails on good square stock that is the exact same thickness and width as the final piece you intend to make. Otherwise you may have re-adust on your good piece and even a slight adjustment on this jig can change things quite a bit.

I would have given this jig 5-stars but the owners manual is hard to follow, and the pictures are fuzzy. A DVD would be much more helpful.

Durable, quick setup/ takedown and very simple to use. Instructions and online video clear and straight forward.

I think if I had to rate anything below grade for this product, it would have to be the user manual. One would have to do live adjustments while reading the manual as the illustrations are a bit sub-par, especially when reading about the built-in router bit depth gauge.

That being said, the jig is an excellent buy for a novice to intermediate woodworker and comes with all necessary components (sans wood and router) to complete the task efficiently and effortlessly. Once the user fine-tunes the depth of the bit, the included collar easily guides the router along the template.

For doing through dovetails or box joints, the manual will recommend having two 1/2" routers to accomplish this task, which is a huge time-savings and eliminates any additional fine tuning of the depth gauge or router set up.

The unit is heavy duty and easily bolts or clamps down to a stable work surface and the cam-lock style clamping system held my stock 1/2" and 3/4" maple firmly in place.
